British Steel Hide
A Barn Owl was seen perched on the posts in between the Micheal Powell Hide and the British Steel Hide before flying towards the Dafen Scrapes. The cold weather has caused many birds to go else where. There has only been three spoonbills instead of the usual seven and the wader variety has dropped but Lapwing, Greenshank, Redshank and Black-tailed Godwits can still be seen. a lot of the wildfowl have been confined to small bodies of water because the majority of the lagoons have frozen over. Wigeon, Tufted Duck, Shelduck and Mallard can still be seen.
Millennium Wetlands
A Goshawk was seen hunting wildfowl over the deep water lake on Sunday morning. The cold weather has caused the Deep Water Lake to freeze over but that hasn't stopped the Otter hunting, it was seen poking its head up through the ice in between dives on Tuesday morning. There is still a good variety of Wildfowl on the deep water lake all concentrated in a small area that hasn't frozen over. Wildfowl that can be seen includes: Shoveler, Wigeon, Gadwall, Pochard, Tufted Duck and Mallard.
