Recent sightings 19th - 21st June

Highlights include, Treecreeper, Bar-tailed godwit and Ringlet butterfly

British steel hide

Our resident spoonbill continue to make regular appearances on the saline lagoons. Large numbers of shelduck are often seen resting on the edges of the salt marsh and Dafen scrapes. There are also plenty of Shelduck ducklings in the grounds. On Thursday a bar-tailed godwit was seen feeding in front of the steel hide. Our black-headed gull colony have started to fledge and can be seen practicing flying over the Dafen scrapes.

Millennium wetlands

Groups of tufted duck, gadwall, shoveler and pochard have been seen feeding from the Herons wing hide. Large numbers of black-tailed godwit continue to congregate on Deep water lake. 16 mediterranean gulls have been seen from the Peter Scott hide. Our three swan familys around the reserve are doing well with all cygnets still accounted for.

Our final breeding bird survey of the year has been carried out and its looking like a good year for all our passerines. 7 cetti's warblers, 23 sedge, 43 reed, 29 chiffchaff, 38 blackcap, 15 whitethroat and 3 lesser whitethroat have been recorded.

Our first ringlet butterfly of the year has been seen as well as the usual, small copper, common blue and speckled wood.
