Recent sightings 1st - 4th June

Highlights include Sparrowhawk, Red Kite and Cuckoo

British Steel Hide

Visible over the saline lagoons recently has been Shelduck, Gadwall,Greylag Goose, Lapwing, Starlings, Swallows. The 4 Spoonbill are still present and can be seen feeding regularly in the lagoons. The new cattle arrived over the weekend which will be grazing the salt marshes for the duration of summer. On the Dafen scrapes the Little Ringed Plover are still nesting, and individuals can be seen around the banks of the scrapes. Also on the Dafen scrapes have been Grey Heron, Shelduck, Gadwall, Tufted Duck and Lapwing.


Millennium Wetlands

Over deep water lake have been 7 Pochard, Shoveler, Tufted Duck and ducklings, Little Egret, Lapwing and c200 Black-tailed Godwit. Also spotted hunting over deep water lake have been both Sparrowhawk and Red Kite. The Cuckoo was seen and heard again on Monday morning perched in a dead tree by Hopkins Folly and the wild flower meadow, also on Monday morning a Whimbrel was heard calling on the reserve. Plenty of newly fledged birds are around the reserve now, including Blue Tit, Great Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Blackcap and Chiffchaff.
