Recent sightings 20th - 22nd March

Highlights include, Otter, Bar-tailed Godwit and Peacock Butterfly

British Steel Hide

Recently seen from the Steel hide has been, 48 Shelduck, 30 Wigeon and small numbers of Teal and Gadwall. Three Spoonbill continue to make regular appearances amongst the Little Egrets. Redshank and Black-tailed Godwit have been seen feeding on the saline lagoons.

On the Dafen scrapes, large groups of Black-headed, Great Black-backed, Lesser Black-backed and Herring Gulls have been seen making use of the newly created shell islands. Shelduck also frequent the area as well as a pair of Pochard.

On the estuary a group of 22 Bar-tailed Godwits was seen in flight on Friday morning.

Millennium Wetlands

Over on the Millennium Wetlands, large groups of Tufted duck has been seen from the Herons Wing as well as groups of Teal, Gadwall, Shelduck and Shoveler. Lapwing continue their courtship displays on the main island and can be seen from the screens along center path. A female Goldeneye continues to make regular appearances on the Lilly pond. Chiffchaff has become a regular sound around the reserve. Long-tailed Tit have begun nesting in the hedgerow and brambles around the site. Water Rail have been seen darting between the ditches behind the Peter Scott Hide.

The Otter has been seen recently from the Peter Scott hide, hopefully they become regular sights again.

Slow Worms and Peacock Butterflies have been seen around the northern loop
