Recent Sightings 20th - 24th November
Highlights: Ruff, Spoonbill, Merlin, Woodcock.
Dafen Scrapes and Saline Lagoon:
Spoonbill continue to be our largest visitor on the Saline lagoon, 12 were recorded to have been out there on 20/11. Lapwings have also been constant visitors on the lagoon through-out the week with 35 individuals on Monday (20/11) and 79 being observed on the far side of the lagoon Friday (24/11). Ruff Have also been present through the Freshwater lagoon and the Dafen Scrapes 6 being recorded on Monday (20/11) and an adult and juvenile pair present on (24/11). On the weekend (19/11) we had reports of a Merlin being visible from the British steel hide.
Millennium Wetlands:
This week we have had two sightings of Woodcock on the Reserve the first being Monday by the sir Peter Scott hide and the second being seen over the southern loop near Hopkins folly on Tuesday (21/11). With Temperatures having cooled significantly this week we have also been able to get more regular sightings of Water Rail who begin to leave the safety of the reed beds and foliage cover for foraging.
