Recent sightings 22nd-25th September
British Steel Hide
The highest number of Greenshank at the site has recently been recorded at 79, there have also been 579 Knot, 965 Black-tailed Godwit, 504 Redshank, 31 Dunlin, 3 Snipe, and 4 Spotted Redshank. A Peregrine falcon has been spotted hunting over the salt marshes, as well as 160 Wigeon, and 212 Greylag geese.
Millennium Wetlands
Recently spotted on the wetlands have been 79 Gadwall, 9 Shoveler, 14 Teal, Little Grebe, and regular sightings of the Kingfisher continue. Waders such as Redshank and Black-tailed Godwit can be regularly seen on deep water lake, and a Snipe was been spotted on the western scrapes. Birds of prey have also made appearances over the last few days, including Buzzard and a Marsh Harrier so keep your eyes peeled. Water rail have been heard all around the millennium wetlands, so keep an ear out for their distinctive call.
Otters have been seen on numerous occasions recently, on Saturday 3 were spotted together on deep water lake. On Monday there were multiple sightings of a single Otter around deep water lake, one of these sightings was from the heron's wing hide.
Butterflies can still be seen around the Millennium wetlands, large numbers of Speckled wood and small copper, as well as some Red admiral, Common blue and Comma.
In the grounds on Monday, a Tawny owl was seen, and a Goshawk joined us for most of the day - clearly visible from the café windows!
