British Steel Hide
There have been greylag geese and canada geese on the salt marsh this week, species that are giving us the last glimpse of winter. Our five spoonbills however, are a wonderful constant on the saline lagoon. There have been good numbers of tufted ducks and teal on site this week. It's nice to see the green sandpiper has returned to the freshwater lagoon.
Millennium Wetlands
In contrast, there have been some signs of spring in the millennium wetlands, the birds have been singing beautifully and the first brimstone butterfly to emerge from hibernation was spotted on friday. A kestrel has been seen hovering over head and a red kite has been soaring all over the millennium wetlands. A green woodpecker has been feeding on the path on the reserve and curiously, a bat was seen feeding on insects in the day at the same time! There have been good numbers of snipe on the stone islands on deep water lake although they are very hard to spot because they are so well camouflaged.
