Recent Sightings (24th-27th Feb)

British Steel Hide

Highlights from the British Steel Hide include 2 Spoonbills (27th), a Great White Egret (25th), a Spotted Redshank (25th) and a 2nd winter Yellow-legged Gull roosted on the lagoons on the 26th. Flocks of Black-tailed Godwits, Lapwing and Wigeon are still to be found from the hide.

Millennium Wetlands

We have recently dropped the water levels on Deep Water Lake in preparation for the breeding season, and the duck numbers have risen almost immediately. A superb drake Pintail was the first we have had on the lake for months, and it was joined by 6 Wigeon, 20 Shoveler, 36 Teal, 20 Gadwall, 17 Coot, 42 Tufted Ducks, 6 Pochard, the female Ring-necked Duck (27th), 8 Shelduck, 2 Mute Swans and 3 Little Grebes. 6 Snipe, 3 Lapwing, 24 Black-tailed Godwits and a Dunlin have been seen from the Peter Scott Hide as well. Also seen around the reserve have been 5 Little Egrets, 2 Grey Herons, 2 Stonechats, a Buzzard and a Red Kite.

Other Wildlife

An Otter was seen from the Heron's Wing Hide on the 27th, and there have been reports of a family of three (two juveniles) on the Deep Water Lake from the weekend.
