Recent sightings 25th - 28th May

Highlights include Southern Marsh Orchid, Marsh Harrier and Little Ringed Plover

British Steel Hide

Visible over the saline lagoons and Dafen scrapes have been Spoonbill feeding, Little Ringed Plover, Tufted Duck, Gadwall, Shelduck, Lapwing, Cormorant and Pied Wagtail.

On the freshwater lagoon visible from the Boardwalk hide and Observatory have been 200+ Black-tailed Godwit, lots of Greylag geese and their goslings, Shelduck and their ducklings, Tufted Duck and Gadwall. There are a large number of Black-headed Gull chicks which have now hatched and are visible on the edges of the stone islands.

Millennium Wetlands

Recently on the reserve good numbers of Black-tailed Godwit continue to be seen on the front of the main island on deep water lake, there has also been Little Egret, Pochard, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Little Grebe, Gadwall and Shelduck. The Mute Swans and their cygnets on deep water lake and the Lilly Pond are both doing well. On both Monday and Tuesday a female Marsh Harrier was seen methodically hunting over the Eastern Scrapes visible from the Welsh Water Hide, and then later over the western scrapes visible from the Heron's Wing hide.

Also just starting to show over the last couple of weeks is the Southern Marsh Orchid, usually seen in the vegetation bordering the paths around the reserve.
