British Steel Hide
We had our first sighting of a great white egret for the season this week and the number of little egrets, still in beautiful breeding plumage, is increasing too. Other wader highlights from the saline lagoon include whimbrel, green sandpiper and dunlin. There was a common gull spotted on the dafen scrapes and the pair of barnacle geese are still there too.
Millennium Wetlands
We've finally been able to confirm that there are at least two mediterranean gull chicks on deep water lake which is so exciting! Our pair of great crested grebes seem to have made another nest which hopefully is a bit more sheltered than their last brave attempt, and there is a great view of a little grebe nest right in front of the Peter Scott hide. Everywhere you look around the reserve there is delicate ringlet butterflies, along with magnificent cinnabar and bernet moths in the flower meadows. We've spotted some water shrews this week too.
