Recent Sightings (28th-31st July)

 

Millennium Wetlands

The group of Garden Warblers have made several appearances recently, with 2 on 31st seen near the Heron Wing Hide bridge. Other birds out on the reserves include 4 Jay, 3 Long-Tailed Tit, 18 Goldfinch, 4 Blackcap and 5 Chiffchaff. There was also 1 Bullfinch, 2 Reed Warbler and a Swift. A Green Woodpecker has also been heard.

On Deep Water Lake, 17 Mallard were kept company by 27 Gadwall, 6 Teal, 1 Tufted Duck, 7 Coot and 5 Moorhen. There were also 5 Little Grebe, including 1 juvenile, 14 Cormorant, 4 Little Egret, 4 Grey Heron, 10 Lapwing and 53 Black-Tailed Godwit. We also have a pair of Shoveler Ducklings doing really well. The Mute Swan Cygnets can be regularly seen near the Lilly Pond. Two Buzzards have been out on the reserve as well.

British Steel Hide

Two Spoonbills are out on the Saline Lagoons along with 15 Cormorant and 3 Little Egret. There has also been 98 Redshank and 41 Greenshank. On the Dafen Scrapes the 10 Lapwing have also been in this area, as well as 18 Gadwall.

Other Wildlife

A Fox kit was seen on the reserve on 31st. The weekend held host to Common Lizards and a Grass snake was seen on 31st. Southern Hawkers are a common sight on the reserve. Another common dragonfly to look out for is the Common Darter.
