British Steel and Michael Powell Hides

Low tides have meant that waders numbers on the lagoons have been somewhat low. Counts of 59 Lapwing, 10 Dunlin, 3 Greenshank, 10 Redshank and a Black-tailed Godwit have been taken from the hide. Wildfowl have included 107 Wigeon, 17 Teal, 2 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 16 Shelduck, 17 Mallards and 12 Tufted Ducks. Other species have included a Spoonbill, a reported Great White Egret, 2 Stonechats, 3 Buzzards, a Merlin, a Peregrine, a Kingfisher and 2 Bullfinches. The Wigeon flock seems to be building slightly, and they have been seen feeding very close to the Michael Powell hide recently.

Millennium Wetlands

Wildfowl counts from the Peter Scott hide have included 111 Teal, 20 Gadwall, 61 Mallards, 7 Shoveler, 20 Tufted Ducks, 8 Coot, 4 Wigeon, 9 Mute Swans, 2 Little Grebes and 4 Shelduck. Other birds seen from around Deep Water Lake have included a Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Snipe, a Water Pipit, 4 Stock Doves, 10 Meadow Pipits, 6 Goldfinches, 12 Redwings, 11 Reed Buntings and a Grey Wagtail. A Blackcap was seen in the grounds as well as a nice mixture of Finches, Tits and Thrushes. Up to 3 Hawfinches were seen on the 29th Nov at the site entrance, Hopkin's folly and the fishing platforms. Other birds have included 2 Red Kites, a Peregrine, a Sparrowhawk, Redwings, a Fieldfare , a Kingfisher, 3+ House Sparrows and lots more.
