Thank you to all those who attended our High tea and High Tide watch on Saturday 30th September, with 8.63 meter swell the tide was one of the highest tides of the year. There has been an increase in Spoonbill numbers on the Saline lagoon with as many as 9 seen huddled together from the British steel hide. With fewer Black tailed Godwits on the lagoon (273 06/10) a Dunlin was spotted in amongst the throng of Black tailed Godwits as well as several Bar-Tailed Godwits (06/10). A Green sandpiper (06/10) was one of the visitors to our Freshwater lake on the islands closest to the Board walk Hide.
Millennium wetlands:
A water rail has made several appearances on the Deepwater Lake across from the Sir Peter Scot Hide (06/10) and the Herons wing hide (05/10), as well as a small group of 5 Snipe (03/10). A massive thank you to our volunteers on Wednesday (04/10) for assisting in the removal of the cut vegetation on the wildflower meadow, this conservation strategy aims to boost wild flower growth at the site and increase the food availability for very important pollinator species on the site!
