British Steel Hide
We have had lots of Peregrine sightings this week on the salt marsh, with the Peregrine most often seen on the ground near the Osprey post. The Hobby, seen earlier in the week over the Millennium Wetlands, has also been seen over the Dafen Scrapes hunting the small birds. This recent bird of prey activity has meant that our wader numbers have been lower than usual, with only small numbers of Greenshank, Redshank and Dunlin being spotted.
Seen from the observatory there have been over 800 Black-Tailed Godwit and over 200 Knot.
Millennium Wetlands
We had some sighting of the Hobby on Wednesday and Thursday though it seems to have moved over to the Salt marshes. Water rail has been heard around the Wetlands so listen out for its distinctive call. We still have our resident waterfowl visible from the Herons wing hide, including Gadwal, Teal, Tufted Duck and Shoveler. Small numbers of Black-Tailed Godwit can be seen feeding on the main island, usually following the sheep around. The kingfisher continues to make regular appearances. We have placed a number of kingfisher posts around Deep Water Lake which they use frequently.
