Recent Sightings 3rd-6th March

Highlights - Greenshank, Buzzard, Chiffchaff, Otter and Mallard Ducklings

British Steel Hide

The Lagoons have been fairly quiet recently with Wader numbers quite low, but there is still a decent diversity. There are Black-tailed Godwit, Greenshank, Knot, Redshank, Curlew and Lapwing to be seen. Two Buzzards have been seen out on the salt marsh. On the Dafen Scrapes Wildfowl numbers are starting to decrease with a notable decline in numbers of Wigeon, Teal and Shoveler.

Millennium Wetlands

Spring is well and truly underway now with displaying Lapwing and Black-headed Gulls around the Deep Water Lake and Singing Chiffchaff along the Northern Loop. There are Little Grebes on the Deep Water Lake along with a few pairs of Pochard and Gadwall. In the evening there is a small Little Egret roost that is starting to build in between the Herons Wing and Peter Scott Hides. An Otter was also seen on the Deep Water Lake on Wednesday morning.

Grounds

On the Fresh Water Lagoon there has been a family of 7 Mallard Ducklings seen, which are the first of the year for the reserve. Hopefully they can stay out of sight from the Gulls.
