Recent Sightings 4th - 10th June
Highlights - Kingfisher, Great Crested Grebe, Cuckoo and Bee Orchid
Orchids are showing strongly this year on the reserve with lots of southern marsh-orchids across the site. There are also several Twayblade orchids on site, as well as a couple of bee orchids that are new on the reserve.
Young Great crested grebe can now be seen with their parents on Deep water lake having hatched earlier this week. The kingfishers have also successfully fledged young, and can sometimes be viewed in inlets around the lake.
Three cuckoos were spotted on the Millennium wetlands this week around the East scrapes, including a pair. A barn owl also made an appearance this week.
There is an ever-changing range of dragonfly species on the reserve, with different species appearing every week, including black-tailed skimmer, common damselfly, azure damselfly, common darter and four-spotted chaser all seen this week.
Two male teal have turned up this week and can be seen on the Lagoon or Dafen scrapes.
