Recent Sightings 4th – 8th December
Highlights: Ruff, Pochard, Pintail
Dafen Scrapes and Saline lagoon:
With blustery winds this week the Saline lagoons visible from the estuary side of the British steel hide were largely quiet with some hold outs like Little Egrets, Canada Goose and Greylag (08/12). On the Dafen scrapes, Which can be seen from the British steel and Goodall hides, large numbers of Wigeon (123 08/12). Amongst the Wigeon were a small contingent of Black tailed Godwits and 2 Ruff (08/12).
On the freshwater lagoon a Pochard could be seen from the Boardwalk Hide (08/12).
Millennium Wetlands:
On the Millennium wetlands this week work was carried out on several of the islands in front of the Sir Peter Scott and Herons Wing hide, Our volunteers helped clear out lots of cut material on stone islands helping creating nesting habitats for a variety of Waders and Gulls, as well as clearing a channel in the Typha to increase visibility of secretive species like Snipe and Bitterns.
Even with the work carried out this week lots of Snipe were seen throughout the week (05/12, 08/12). Alongside large numbers of Gadwall, Teal and Mallards (08/12).
