Recent Sightings 9th-11th February

Highlights - Displaying Kestrels, Yellow-legged Gull, Water Rail and Spoonbill

Spring has truly begun, with wildfowl, waders and raptors all showing the begins of displaying behaviour! A male and female Kestrel were Spotted displaying over the cafe' pond yesterday.

The recent flooding of the Dafen Scrapes back lagoon has attracted a lot of Waders from the estuary into closer view. With Spoonbill, Oystercatchers, high numbers of Black-tailed Godwit, Knot and Redshank being seen. There is also plenty of Wildfowl around including Wigeon, Pochard, Gadwall, Tufted Duck, Shoveler and Shelduck. A Yellow Legged Gull has also been seen in amongst the gull flocks so keep a eye out.

As well as being seen on the Dafen Scraps the Spoonbill can still be seen out on the Saline Lagoons, along with with plenty of waders and wildfowl. There have also been sightings of raptors including Sparrowhawk, Buzzard and Peregrine.

Millennium Wetlands

Out on the Deep Water Lake there have been a diverse selection of wildfowl including: Little Grebe, Pochard, Wigeon, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Gadwall and Mallard. On the stone islands there have been roosts of Lapwing sighted and the occasional snipe.
