Record Count

We have been edging towards a record count of Black-tailed Godwit and today we have (unofficially) hit 1100 mark breaking the previous record from July 1987 of 1075. Our godwits are of the icelandic race and these birds have been returning from the icelandic summer for the past 3 weeks.

Additional waders included 400+ Lapwing, Wood Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, 10 Snipe, 15+ Ruff, 3 Little Ringed Plover, 5 Dunlin and 6 Oystercatcher.

Raptors included Peregrine, Hobby, 5 Kestrel, 2 Sparrowhawk and 3+ Buzzard.

Two Little Egret, 6+ Grey Heron, Great-crested and Little Grebes present.

Check any tit flock for warblers. Linnets and Goldfinches active across the reserve. Tree Sparrow near the Kingfisher Hide, Raines Observatory and Janet Kear Hides.
