Returning Russian 'White-fronts'

Tack Piece

The first pair of Russian White-fronted Geese were back on the Tack Piece by this afternoon, hopefully we'll see more arriving this week, the forecast for later in the week looks good for more wildfowl arrivals. The scrape also hosted 400 Teal and 130 Wigeon.

Holden Tower

Early morning flocks of 8, 15 and 3 Ruff flew off to the North, they followed the Severn presumable to daytime feeding grounds. A female Merlin was being mobbed by corvids around midday but flew inland.

Knott Hide

Small numbers of Redwing, Redpoll, Siskin and Song Thrush in the hedge with male and female Blackcap, Fieldfare and Grey Wagtail also noted. Goldcrest and Treecreeper along the hedge/path.

Rushy Hide

Spotted Redshank and 2 Redshank, 34 Pochard and 29 Pintail this afternoon plus the Ferruginous Duck x Pochard hybrid.

South Lake

Spotted Redshank, 12 Redshank, 260 Black-tailed Godwit, 14 Snipe, 12 Pochard (24 early am), 50 Shoveler, 170 Teal and 120 Black-headed Gulls.

Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece

5 Little Stint, 190 Dunlin, Ruff, Redshank, 40 Lapwing and 350 Wigeon.

Kingfisher Hide

Ruff, 21 Curlew and 40 Lapwing.

Canoe Trail

6 Goldcrest and a Chiffchaff.
