September migrants

It was very busy with Chiffchaffs today, 120+ seen and heard around the site with Willow Warblers and Goldcrests also in evidence, this is likely to be a large undercount, who knows how many are out there? A few new waders were seen today, September is the best month for migration, we have the Severn Wader Festival on 9 and 10 September to make the most of the peak period for these amazing birds.

Rushy Hide

2 Green Sandpipers, 20 Teal, and 3 Wigeon including the hybrid male.

Robbie Garnett Hide

A newly arrived juvenile Wood Sandpiper (with a damaged leg) and 2 Green Sandpiper + 60 Teal.

Holden Tower

A Marsh Harrier, Kestrel and Peregrine among the raptor highlights. A single Wheatear also noted.

South Lake

155 Black-tailed Godwit, 12 Ruff, 31 Redshank, 3 Snipe, 2 Green Sandpiper, 2 Avocet, 22 Gadwall, 23 Shoveler, 16 Teal, 69 Tufted Ducks, 5 Pochard and 130 Greylag Geese.

Zeiss Hide

300+ Teal, 83 Shoveler and a juvenile Garganey, the godwits and Redshank were mobile between here and South Lake, an adult Ruff and Green Sandpiper could also be seen.

Kingfisher Hide

A Spotted Flycatcher and Green Woodpecker were highlights.
