The weather conditions this week may not be to everyone’s liking but they have been perfect for seeing spring migration around the Severn. Winds from the East or North East have pushed lot of migrating birds in our direction, and the rain has dropped them down. Had we been sat all day counting birds the numbers would be very big. For example at times we were seeing several hundred Swallows flying past every minute heading north and probably at least 10,000 if not more would have passed through our reserve on the 1st of May. Below are some counts from the last two days that we have made whilst working.
