Sightings roundup
Its been a busy few days on the reserve so apologies for the lack of news. Tuesday saw our annual Bewick's Swan catch on the Rushy with 10 birds caught, ringed and health checked along with 30 geese and 140 duck including Pochard, Pintail and Tufted Duck. The Rushy will take a couple of days to 'recover' from the disturbance but already the birds are returning as normal for the daily feeds.
The Tack Piece, viewed from the Robbie Garnett Hide, Stephen Kirk Hide or Holden Tower was alive with birds this morning (Wednesday) including 90 Bewick's Swans and several thousand duck and wader. The fog stayed for much of the day offering poor visibility, before a brief break just after lunch. This sunny spell was short lived as the fog returned from the Severn even thicker reducing visibility to just a few metres.

South Lake Hides
Birds included over 300 Lapwing, 26 Shoveler, 6 Snipe, 139 Pochard, 128 Tufted Duck and a single Black-tailed Godwit.

Zeiss Hide
Birds included 500+ Lapwing, 50+ Dunlin, Ruff, 200+ Teal and Wigeon, 14 Snipe, 2 Curlew and a Cetti’s Warbler calling from the reedbed.
