Sightings Update

The Tundra Bean Goose (pic by Andy Bunting) was showing well this morning, associating with a small group of injured Pink-footed Geese around the edge of the Mere. The bird is also showing signs of injury on its right wing, more obviously so than when it first arrived.

A good raptor weekend with 7 species recorded; adult male Hen Harrier, Merlin, Peregrine, 3+ Marsh Harrier, 4+ Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Both Barn Owl and Tawny Owl can be seen with a bit of luck.

A count of 8 Little Egret is a site record.

Adult Med Gull on the Mere late afternoon.

Waders include; 2 Green Sandpiper, 700+ Lapwing, 50+ Ruff, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 20+ Snipe, 5 Oystercatcher.

Little Grebes from the Harrier Hide. Grey Wagtail in the grounds. Pair of Bullfinch near Catty Bank, 3 pair of Treecreeper (site record), 4 pair of Stonechat out on the reserve fields and Goldcrest along the Nature Trail.

Willow Tit regular at the Janet Kear Hide.

Twite reported again on the island in front of the Ron Barker Hide.

Just off the reserve on Curlew Lane 10 Grey Partridge and c.20 Corn Bunting.
