Another lovely start to the day with sunshine and very little wind. The copse in front of the Holden Tower once again produced a nice selection of warblers including Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Reed Warbler, Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler along with a juvenile Bullfinch and several Linnet. There was no sign of yesterday's Marsh Tit. It has been a great morning for Snipe with 16 showing well from the Hogarth Hide alone. Cetti's Warblers have also been very vocal today across the reserve.
The Hogarth Hide was a delight this morning with at least 16 Snipe showing well and very close to the hide. Out across the duck marsh were 6 Ruff of a variety of sizes, 2 Green Sandpiper and 7 Redshank. On the wader scrape from the Discovery Hide were 147 Black-tailed Godwit, another 6 Ruff, 16 Redshank and an Avocet. A Little Grebe was on the deep lake with 24 Gadwall and 18 Shoveler.
.
At least 8 Snipe were showing well on the edge of the causeway. Also on the lower pond were 2 juvenile Ruff, a Little-ringed Plover, 3 Green Sandpiper, 12 Lapwing and a Redshank. A Little Grebe was on the upper pond, a Grey Wagtail was on the island and a Yellow Wagtail flew over.
.
A nice selection of warblers in the copse in front of the tower including Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Reed Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat and Whitethroat. A few Linnet dropped in and a juvenile Bullfinch was seen. The water in the Dumbles scrape attracted 5 Yellow Wagtails to bathe. A Buzzard was sat out on a fence post near the river. A Cetti's Warbler was singing from the reedbed in front of the Knott Hide.
.
Rather quiet for waders with just 10 Lapwing on show. Around 150 Teal are now on the scrape with a small number of Shoveler and Gadwall. Three Cetti's Warblers could be heard from the reedbed in front of the hide and the nearby South Finger reedbed.
.
Five Green Sandpiper were on the scrape along with a single Black-tailed Godwit and Redshank.
