Spotted again

The Spotted Crake remains in front of the Van de Bovenkamp Hide on the South Finger, showing well on the small dragonfly pool feeding on any invertebrates it can find in the vegetation.

South Lake Hides

The flock of Black-tailed Godwit totalled 130 birds with a large number of Lapwing also present.  Other waders included 8 Ruff (only 3 of which were juveniles), a single Green Sandpiper, 27 Redshank and 8 Snipe.  Two Cranes dropped in early morning, their colour rings revealing they are Bart and Ruby.

Zeiss Hide

Fewer waders but more ducks, perhaps the rest of the waders are out on the river before high tide later today.  Waders included 33 Dunlin, 96 Lapwing, 2 Ruff, 4 Snipe and a Black-tailed Godwit.  Amongst the thousand or so Teal were several hundred Wigeon and at least 51 Pintail plus a few Shoveler and Gadwall.  Three Cranes flew in from The Dumbles - Evie, Oakie and Cotton.

Knott Hide

A busy hedgerow with at least 8 Chiffchaff busy foraging.  A Reed Warbler was seen in the reedbed and a Cetti's Warbler was heard.  Activity along the hedgerow briefly dipped as a Sparrowhawk passed by.

Rushy Pen

The adult and juvenile Little Grebe were showing well again from the hide.  At least 4 Tufted Duck were present with the Teal flock with numbered around 120 birds.  The only waders noted were 3 Snipe and 4 Lapwing.
