Spotted Redshank

A breeding plumaged Spotted Redshank is still present from yesterday, today it has been on the pools out from Ron Barker Hide, but no reports of yesterdays Wood Sandpiper. A nice count of at least 5 Green Sandpiper this morning on Woodend Marsh also a Common Sandpiper there and 3 Ringed Plover including 1 fledged chick. Good numbers of Avocets on Woodend with at least 30 birds and 35 Black-tailed Godwit. Also in the Woodend/Reed bed Walk area in the morning was a singing Grasshopper Warbler.

There are still Cetti's, Reed, Sedge, Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff singing this morning in the Reed bed walk area

Common Terns still actively feeding young on the Mere.

Two Little Grebe (ad & juv) have been on the Mere all day also a Grey Wagtail flew past the Mere in the morning.

Plenty of Painted Lady butterflies around at the moment with the warm air plume coming off the African continent, also a few rare Dragonflies have been seen in the local area with a sighting of a Vagrant Emperor at Formby Point, so anything could turn up on site!
