Spotted Redshank and Greenshank

Both Greenshank and Spotted Redshank arrived on the Tack Piece this morning and stopped to preen and sleep, both individuals have begun to moult into breeding plumage, the former was also spotted in the Rushy later in the day.

Greenshank, Spotted Redshank, 2 Redshank, 4 Avocet, 19 Black-tailed Godwit, Little-ringed Plover, 3 Gadwall, 17 Teal, 7 pairs of Shoveler + five males, a drake Pintail and a female Wigeon.

Spring migrants/returning breeders

A Red Kite passed over the site, 7 Swallows flew N upriver, a male Common Whitethroat was singing in the overflow car park hedge.

South Lake

Four Cattle + single Little Egret roosting in the trees on deep lake, 2cy Little Gull feeding over the lake, a 2cy Mediterranean Gull on the causeway with Black-headed and Herring Gulls, Kingfisher, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Little-ringed Plover and 66 Avocet on the scrape.

Rushy Hide/Peng Observatory

Drake Garganey, 3 Little-ringed Plover, Redshank, 19 Avocet, 6 Black-tailed Godwit, pairs of Teal and Shoveler and nesting Crane.

One Glossy Ibis present mid morning 88 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Ruff, 4 Redshank, 16 Avocet, singing Reed Warblers, 2 Lapwing and a few pairs of Gadwall, Teal and Shoveler

Marsh Harrier hunting over Top New Piece early morning, 26 Avocet on the scrape and 5 Ringed Plover and a Curlew on the sands
