Spring is in the air

The last Harrier count of the winter for our wardens was Sunday evenng with five marsh harriers and one hen harrier spotted from the Reedbed Hide.

A vagrant Greenland white-fronted goose has been onsite since late Friday aternoon, hanging out near the greylag geese from the Ramsar hide. A couple of barnacle geese are still on site along with 4 cackling geese. Monday's sun brought warm to the air and woke up our frst brimstone butterflies of the year and triggered lots of spring singing in the tits and robins. Lapwing are displaying and nest scraping and sitting from the Lapwing hide.

Lapwing hide: 7 lapwing - 1 nest scraping,1 sitting eggs, 2 gadwall, 4 shoveler, 1 snipe

Ramsar - Sand Martin hides: 5 lapwing, 9 Mediterranean gulls, Greenland white-fronted goose (vagrant), 7 snipe, 2 barnacle geese, 4 cackling geese, 2 pochard, 1 lesser black-backed gull, 4 pochard.
