Start of summer moult for some
Some ducks and geese are now going into moult.
Mallard, gadwall and mandarin ducks along with greylag and Canada geese are all looking particularly tatty at the moment and the piles of feathers left behind are dotting our site!
Pochard and tufted ducks can still be seen with young and they seem to be faring best on the Pelican Cove. The oystercatcher pair had their first nest predated, but they have gone for a second attempt on one of the Pelican islands. The pair of oystercatcher on the Sand Martin hide hatched three chicks on the hide roof and family are now on the islands. You may get to see the chicks running around the rapidly growing vegetation.
Juvenile lapwings can still be seen from the Ramsar hide, although now flying in and out. Lapwing do still have at least one younger chick at the back of the wet grassland but its difficult to see through the high vegetation.

Ramsar and Sand Martin hide: 2 oyster catcher with 1 chick
Scrape hide: 1 teal
Pelican Cove 4: 1 oyster catcher sitting on nest, 1 pochard with 1 duckling, 1 tufted duck with 4 ducklings and a female mallard.
24 June
Sand Martin hide and Ramsar Hide: 1 cormorant, 2 cattle egret,2 Egyptian geese, 4 gadwall, 6 tufted duck, 40 sand martins, 1 grey heron
Waterside walk: 4 oystercatcher, two adults with two checks
Scrape hide: 4 black caps, six mute swans, two adults with 4 chicks, 17 gadwall, 2 tufted duck
23 June
Wood loop: 10 long tailed, tits, 4 mallard, 4 moorhen, 4 wren, 1 blackbird, 3 chaffinch, 3 blue, tit, 3 great tits, great spotted woodpecker.

Ramsar and Sand Martin hide: 11 tufted duck, 40 gadwall, 2 oystercatchers with 1 chick, 6 coots, 4 mallard, 1 shoveler, 3 Canada Goose, 1 greylag goose, 67 black-headed goals with four juveniles, 20 sand martins
Scrape hide: 1 gadwall with six ducklings
Pelican Cove:1 tufted duck and the female mallard with 4 ducklings, 1 pochard with two ducklings
