Sunday sightings
The most notable and obvious birds of the day were all the gulls out from the Ramsar and Sandmartin hides. There were around 1600 Blackheaded gulls, 300 Common gulls and 4 Mediterranean gulls. One Little egret, Teal, Gadwall, Shelduck and 5 Lapwing along with the usual Mallard and Canada geese from these hides as well.
The Lapwing hide was certainly living up to its name with 10 Lapwing displaying, fighting and nest scraping. 11 Teal, 2 Shelduck and 6 Gadwall added to the mix.
Our new Niger feeders at the wildlife garden are now being used by Goldfinch with two sat content to feed as I walked within a few metres of them.
Arun riverlife had a single Oystercatcher and three Lapwing, with the latter also displaying. The Kingfisher also flashed past this morning and 25 Tufted duck with two Pochard on the water.
A couple of unfortunate Common toads were seen squashed on the road leading to the centre, signalling the start of their breeding season migration to spawn on the reserve.
