Sunday Update

Overcast today with light rain early on. Saturday provided a weather opportunity for the arrival of 1000's of Pink-footed Geese and the highest count of the autumn so far of Whooper Swan, 127 counted late on yesterday.

Not just Whooper Swan turning up a mixed group of adult and juvenile Mute Swan (10) also on the Mere.

Great White Egret flew onto the reserve mid afternoon. A few Grey Heron scattered across the site and at least one Little Egret.

At least 3 Marsh Harrier, Merlin, Peregrine, 4+ Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk.

Green Sandpiper again, 500+ Lapwing, 10+ Ruff, 50+ Snipe.

Bearded Reedling were heard near the Harrier Hide. Cetti's Warbler calling on the Reed Red Bed Walk.

A male Stonechat on fence posts beyond Plover Field is the first of this autumn/winter.

Willow Tit again from the Janet Kear Hide.

Some early signs of a Starling roost building. Last year it was relatively small peaking at 5000, compared to 2017's 50000+. Let's keep our fingers crossed we get another big one this autumn.
