Sunday's sightings

It's been a wet start to the day but things are forecast to dry up as the day goes on.  The Spoonbill family flew in from the river early this morning and spent a few hours on the South Lake before heading back to the river.

 

South Lake Hides

Along with the Spoonbill family, this morning saw 3 Spotted Redshank, 43 Redshank, 78 Black-tailed Godwit, 8 Ruff and 5 Avocet on the scrape along with several hundred duck.  A Little-ringed Plover was present at lunchtime.

Rushy Hide

A few Snipe were showing well on the causeway between the upper and lower ponds, feeding amongst the Teal who were loving the wet conditions.  A Little Grebe was on the upper pond along with a single Redshank and several Lapwing on the islands.  At least two of the Spotted Redshank were seen here this morning before heading to the South Lake.

Zeiss Hide

A Greenshank was on the near shoreline at the north end of the scrape amongst the Teal, which over the whole area numbered 569.  A single Black-tailed Godwit was on one of the islands whilst on the shoreline around the main part of the scrape were 4 Golden Plover, 91 Lapwing and 21 Ruff.  Duck also included 44 Wigeon.  At least 4 Snipe were on the islands at the north end.
