Sunday's Sightings

A lovely start to the day, sunshine and light winds and more Pink-footed Geese (below) arriving, 800 on Plover Field this morning.

A flock of at least 8 Bearded Reedling were 'pinging' in the Reedbed, including two young males a sign of successful breeding on the reserve for the first time.

On the Mere 130+ Teal, 30+ Shoveler, 20+ Gadwall.

Waders included Spotted Redshank, 50 Ruff, 50+ Snipe, 40+ Lapwing, 4 Green Sandpiper and 350+ Black-tailed Godwit.

Raptors; 3 Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, 4 Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Kingfishers active around the site including in the collection area, although, as usual the Ron Barker Hide is the most reliable spot.

Willow Tit from the Janet Kear Hide. Five Blackcap and a Whitethroat from the Kingfisher Hide.

Around the Mere 20+ Stock Dove. Some large groups of Swallow and House Martin feeding over the reserve this afternoon.

Yellow Wagtail calling over thin in focus shop late afternoon.

At least 4 Wheatear on the outer edge of the reserve yesterday.
