Sunshine and flooding

Please be aware, the B725 is closed at Brow Well bridge. If you are visiting from the Carlisle/Annan direction you have to come via Dumfries. The bridge has suffered severe damage due to recent flooding and may be closed for a significant amount of time.

The weather at the moment is changeable to say the least. We have just had the wettest September since we started recording rainfall in 1994. 197.5mm of rain, over 100mm coming in the last week! March 2019 was also the wettest we have recorded.

Needless to say, the paths and Avenues are very wet so wellies or at least walking boots are essential to access most of the site.

It is great for wetland birds though, with good numbers arriving at the moment and feeding in the flooded fields.

Commentated swan feeds begin today at 11am and 2pm at the Peter Scott Observatory. We are still waiting on the Whooper Swans to arrive but the cold weather and easterlie winds forecast tonight mean they may be here later this week.

A Kingfisher on the Back Pond and Otter in the Whooper Pond have been particular highlights recently along with Marsh Harrier over the Saltmarsh.
