Swallows on the move

Migrants

A few Swallows have been passing through this morning as well as some Sand Martins, a male Wheatear was on the Dumbles (seen distantly from Holden Tower). Three Ringed Pover, a Grey Plover and 7 Dunlin roosted over high tide. Two different second summer Mediterranea Gulls were feeding with the Common Gulls on the entrance fields.

Holden Tower

See Migrants above. Scattered groups of Greylag Geese and c30 Barnacle Geese, approx. 105 Curlew over the high tide were flushed by three Peregrine (two males), they were very active and managed to catch a prey item. 18 Avocet were about the scrape and the Lapwing males are nest scraping. Two pairs of Oystercatcher out on the flood pools.

South Lake

Pairs of Great Crested Grebe and two pairs of Little Grebe, 8 Avocet in the morning with 76 counted this aftenoon, 2 pairs of Oystercatcher, the Black-tailed Godwits have been moving between the flooded fields and here.

Mediterranean Gulls on South Lake

We recorded at least seven different individuals here today, two adults in breeding plumage, three second-summers which includes YELLOW 2X7N (who is on territory and paired to an adult) and a red darvic ringed bird. Two first-winter/summer birds were also present, one of which has a white ring. Do let us know if you manage to read any of the missing rings.

Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece

32 Avocet, Snipe, 40 Wigeon, 300+ Black-tailed Godwit feeding on the wet fields.
