The Weekend Onwards

A big thanks to all the visitors who came to the North West Birdwatching Festival this weekend and to all the volunteers, exhibitors and speakers.

A brief round up of sightings to the end of Monday. Over 800 Whooper swan roosting on the reserve. Locally the first Bewick's Swan (4) were seen at Marshside today. Approximately 8000 Pink-footed Geese coming into roost.

The Willow Tit was re-trapped over the weekend in one of the popular ringing sessions. Nuthatch and Woodcock seen from the Janet Kear Hide. Kingfisher from the Ron Barker Hide.

Peregrine, 3 Marsh Harrier, 3+ Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Barn Owl also seen late on.

Over 600 Lapwing, 30+ Ruff, 30+ Snipe and 20+ Black-tailed Godwit.

A sizeable flock of Redwing and Fieldfare flew over the reserve.

A few Cetti's Warbler calling on the Reed Bed. Also Water Rail there.

Four Little Egret looked like they were roosting in the trees near the Kingfisher Hide.
