Today's highlights

South Lake

The best birding on site a the moment, the 1st summer Little Gull was feeding over the deep lake all day, Mediterranean Gulls present with an adult in breeding plumage, two second summers and a first winter seen on/off all day. The male Kingfisher whizzed past every ten minutes or so all day long. Two Great Crested Grebe, a pair of Little Grebe, 30 Tufted Duck and 6 Cormorants were also on the deep lake.

On the wader scrape the Avocet flock were generally busy arguing, nest building or feeding, the Black-tailed Godwit flock changed in number throughout the day as the commute to and from the Severn and fields to the N. Up to 9 Snipe, 6 Lapwing, 6 Oystercatcher and 3 Ruff were also on the scrape.

Holden Tower

The lone Dark-bellied Brent Goose was on the Dumbles.

Kingfisher Hide

A pair of Kingfisher present and digging out the nest hole still today.

Ten Avocet, 3 Redshank, 2 Oystercatcher.

Cetti's Warbler showing very well.

Migration

A tern species went through N this morning as well as a single Swallow. The first Sedge Warbler of the year arrived and was singing. At least 20 Willow Warbler were on site singing, at least 6 in the car park and 7 along the path to Holden Tower. 11 Blackcap and 10 Chiffchaff were also noted.

Negative news

No sign of the Spoonbill today.
