Todays Sightings

Holden Tower

A Bonxie was out on the estuary, an adult Peregrine on the edge of the Dumbles and there were 19 Whitefronted Geese. A large flock of 500 Wigeon and 200 Teal were out on the mudflats presumably disturbed by the Bonxie. Grey wagtail on the Knott pool.

Rushy

There were 5 adult Bewicks here this morning, the Ferruginous hybrid as usual. Duck numbers stabilised a bit as they disperse to feed on the new floodwater. Pintail 36, Pochard 32, Teal 90 and Tufted Duck 135.

Zeiss Hide

There were 750 Teal here this morning and rather surprisingly given the time of a year a single Garganey. Good luck with finding that one. Waders were somewhat scarce here except for 360 Lapwing, there were 6 Redshank, 1 Spotted Redshank and a lone Black Tailed Godwit. No sign of the Bittern yet but a Cettis was singing in the reed bed and several Water Rail calling here and from the new pool along the South finger walkway.
