Our annual dawn chorus event took place this morning at 6am and despite the cold weather there were plenty of male birds singing to stake a claim to their territories. Highlights included cetti’s, reed, sedge and willow warblers, blackcap, chiffchaff, whitethroat and lesser whitethroat. The main highlight was hearing the alarm calls of wrens and blackbirds as a tawny owl swooped past.
Other sightings today include 4 Mediterranean gull, 2 common sandpiper, 2 ruff, brent goose, 83 black tailed godwit, greenshank, 53 shelduck, 11 lapwing, 2 great spotted woodpecker and 4 jay.
