Today's sightings
Rushy Pen
The area was spooked (not sure why) around 0930hrs so very few birds remained.
Bewick's Swan- 71 present at 0815hrs. Most of the flock headed out to the Dumbles for the day.
Egyptian Goose- 2 present early morning.
Greater Scaup- female seen early morning
Tack Piece
Most of the Wigeon left the floods when the Rushy Pen was spooked this morning, there were still 689 Teal left on the central flood. At least 14 Ruff, 200 Black-tailed Godwit, 70 Curlew and 43 Redshank were feeding/roosting on the floods. At least 20 Shoveler, 40 Tufted Duck, 20 Pochard and the Pochard x Ferruginous Duck present mid morning.
The 5 Greenland White-fronted Geese were among 106 European White-fronted Geese and up to 7 GCP Cranes were visiting, lots of territorial behaviour witnessed. Up to 5 Buzzard were about the fields. The 2 Egyptian Geese were also seen.
Holden Tower
Marsh Harrier, Peregrine and Merlin were all seen from the hide. Over 2000 each of Golden Plover and Lapwing with a single Little Stint with the Dunlin.
South Lake
Female Greater Scaup and Great Crested Grebe on the deep lake, 200 Black-tailed Godwit and 50 Teal on the wader scrape and 13 Snipe from the Hogarth Hide.
