Rushy Pen Hide

A Little-ringed Plover was feeding on the mud along with 10+ mobile Green Sandpiper.

Tack Piece/Robbie Garnett Hide

Six Lapwing and 7 Green Sandpiper feeding on the scrape.

Holden Tower

A Marsh Harrier was hunting the Dumbles before eventually drifting off toward the Bottom New Piece. An adult and juvenile Little Egret fished on the adjacent pool and the Little Grebe family and a female Wigeon remain on the pool.

Zeiss Hide

22+ Swift, 5+ Sand Martin, 10+ House Martin and 10+ Swallow all feeding over the fields. 35+ Teal, various broods of Shelduck, Shoveler and Gadwall, 70 Lapwing and 4 Avocet on the flood. The gathering of Black-headed Gulls held our first juvenile Mediterranean Gull of the year as well as a first summer with a hood (see below).

Also from the Zeiss Hide it is possible with a telescope to view (very distantly) 2 Greenshank and 6 Green Sandpiper on the Bottom New Piece flood.

South Lake

An increase in Black-tailed Godwits, a flock of 157 present on the wader scrape today. Also 57 Redshank (1 juvenile), 4 Lapwing, 6 Avocet and the moulting Gadwall flock (37). Three adult Greenshank arrived to roost at 4.10pm to roost with the godwits/shanks. A well grown Little Grebe chick is often at tbe back (East side) of the deep lake, the Great Crested Grebe family should still be present.

Estuary

At least 6 Common Sandpiper and 8 Dunlin were seen today, the Avocet and Lapwing families continue to thrive out on the saltmarsh and spartina island.
