Today's Sightings

A few new arrivals this morning with a cracking juvenile Wood Sandpiper and a Garganey both on the Rushy.  A second Garganey was also in front of the Kingfisher Hide.

Rushy Pen

A couple of really nice birds on show here, classic for the time of year.  A juvenile Wood Sandpiper was busy feeding on the islands and a Garganey was hidden away with the Teal.  Other birds included a Redshank, 4 Black-tailed Godwit, a juvenile Ruff, 20 Teal and 3 Snipe.

Zeiss Hide

A quiet morning but all that can change with High Tide later.  The only other birds present amongst the 400+ Teal were 6 Ruff and 4 Lapwing.  High Tide over the last few days has encouraged lots of birds on to the pool including Curlew Sandpiper and Little Stint.

Kingfisher Hide

Star bird this morning was a Garganey from the Kingfisher Hide, showing very well.  Check out the short video here posted on our Twitter account.

South Lake Hide

Waders included a single Curlew Sandpiper, at least 10 Ruff, a single Common Sandpiper and Green Sandpiper, 16 Redshank, 200+ Lapwing and at least 70 Black-tailed Godwit.  A Little Grebe was on the main lake, showing well with 2 Great Crested Grebes present too.

Knott Hide

We've been saying it a lot recently, but the hedgerow in front of the Knott Hide really was jumping this morning with at least 50 warblers of several species all busy feeding and showing well.  Species included Lesser Whitethroat, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Reed Warbler and Chiffchaff.  A Cetti's Warbler was heard in the reedbed and three Goldcrest were seen.  A Green Sandpiper and Common Sandpiper were feeding along the muddy margins of the reedbed too.
