Today's sightings

The Bewick's Swans are down to just 6 birds, a family of five and a seemingly lost cygnet.  The family of five have spent most of the morning on the Tundra Pen in the collection, next to the Eider Pen.

South Lake Hides

Just one pair of Oystercatchers were present this morning, although a second pair was just the other side of the bushes in the Big Pen behind the Visitor Centre.  Avocets are back up to 25 birds whilst the Black-tailed Godwit flock numbered 138 birds, although a second flock were seen in flight over the fields behind the South Lake, possibly taking advantage of the wetter field conditions.

Zeiss Hide

The rain and wetter ground is great news for Snipe, they can feed easily across the field in front of the hide.  This morning a count of 105 birds was made.  Otherwise the Top New Piece is rather quiet with around 80 Wigeon and 40 Teal present around the scrape along with a couple of pairs of Shoveler and Pochard.

Kingfisher Hide

The Bottom New Piece field is again a great place to catch up with waders which this morning included 20 Golden Plover, 4 Curlew, over 300 Dunlin, 50 Lapwing and 24 Ruff.
