Today's sightings

Rushy Pen

One common sandpiper, two oystercatchers, nine black-tailed godwits, one green sandpiper and two avocets. There was also a kingfisher perched close to the Rushy Pen hide.

Holden Tower and Tack Piece

From the Robbie Garnett hide there was one greenshank and one green sandpipers. At least 3 greenfinches were also heard singing in the area.

Zeiss Hide

One crane was stood on one of the islands. There was a variety of waders; 18 redshank, 37 avocet, one little ringed plover, four dunlin and 37 lapwing.

South Lake Hides

12 avocets, around 70 black-tailed godwits were seen in total from the Discovery and the Hogarth Hide. There were 41 lapwing and two grey herons. The crane family is still present with good views of the chick from the Hogarth Hide.

Kingfisher Hide

The kingfisher pair appear to be feeding young due to their level of activity of bringing fish in and out of the nesting hole. This would be their second brood for this season. Another crane could also be seen in the nearby fields. There was at least two blackcaps and a couple reed buntings were also seen about.
