Today's sightings

A very mixed bag weather-wise with glorious sunny spells interspersed with thunderstorms.  The morning hide rounds were a pleasure though in the sun, with a nice selection of birds to make a great day out.

Holden Tower

The sun was catching the copse nicely this morning and resulted in a Blackcap and Lesser Whitethroat.  Numbers of migrants will start to pick up now as birds head south, so be sure to pay attention to the trees here and in front of the Knott Hide, and not just the Dumbles and the river!  A Peregrine was feeding on prey out on the mudflats as the tide dropped whilst out towards Mid Point along the Summer Walkway were a single Whinchat and 3 Wheatear.  There was also a steady passage of House Martin moving down the river this morning with over 60 birds in one flock.
.

South Lake Hides

A count of 215 Black-tailed Godwit this morning is one of the highest of the week.  Also on the wader scrape were 7 Ruff, 40 Redshank, 3 Snipe, 10 Lapwing whilst a Green Sandpiper was in front of the Hogarth Hide.  A Greenshank was heard but not seen.  Two Little Grebe were on the deep lake.
.

Zeiss Hide

Four Cranes were on the Top New Piece field and another 2 flew over and dropped on to the Dumbles.  Around 40 Teal were on the scrape along with 76 Lapwing and 2 Redshank.
