Today's sightings
Tack Piece
91 Bewick's Swan feeding on the flood during the middle part of the day, 7 were present at dawn. Other early morning counts were 850+ Wigeon grazing on adjacent to the main channel as well as 16 Ruff, 6 Redshank, 500 Lapwing, 65 Pintail, 200 Teal, 25 Black-tailed Godwit and a few Curlew. The Red-breasted Goose (ringed) with the Barnacle Goose flock and 42 E. White-fronted Geese early morning, the flock were likely to be feeding in the Goose House Ground, next field to the North but hidden.
Rushy Hide and Peng Observatory
Two Little Stints feeding on the islands (top pond). 88 Bewick's Swan at dawn with large numbers of duck (see above).
Holden Tower
Raven and Buzzard on carrion, 300 Wigeon, 200 Teal, 2 Skylark and 3 Meadow Pipit at the Dumbles scrape.
Willow Hide
Water Rail and numbers of commoner passerines on the feeders.
South Lake
The single Oystercatcher, 300 Lapwing, 12 Black-tailed Godwit, 30 Dunlin and 42 Shoveler among the highlights.
Zeiss Hide
Like many of the scrapes today it was largely frozen, 37 Snipe counted and c.120 Teal with a Grey Heron.
Grounds
A Redpoll was feeding in the alders with c40 Goldfinch.
