Todays sightings

Great birding around the site

South Lake probably best with a big flock of Black Tailed Godwits (90+) and around 80 Redshank. One Ruff and one Reeve and a Green Sandpiper as well. The Spoonbill is perched on the fence in the lake and two Cranes were on the scrape.

Rushy  still good here with the one Avocet family with 3 young still in residence, the other family appears to have left the site. Five Green Sandpipers here as well.

The rain seems to have livened things up for the small birds. A pair of Reed Bunting were feeding young at the Martin Smith Hide and there were two Common Whitethroat and some Sedge Warblers here as well.

The Wood Sandpiper was showing well on the Robbie Garnett with 4 Green Sandpipers and four Black Tailed Godwits.

Another two Green Sandpipers were on the Knott Pool to the left of the Holden Tower but the tide was not yet flooding so wait for that to see what waders are out on the estuary today.

The Zeiss Hide gave good viewing of around 140 Lapwing and at least 26 Dunlin.

Today's Safaris were again very good. bird highlights were good views of Marsh Harrier and Hobby , lots of Little Egrets and Grey Herons. The first Wheatear for a while and 3 Green Sandpipers. A Honey Bee nest has been a highlight recently but this had fallen down in the strong winds this afternoon, lots of very angry Bees. Toads, Smooth Newts and Bank Voles were found along the tide line and a couple of Grass Snakes were under the sheets of tins. Best of all another mass toadlet migration in the damp conditions after last nights rains. Probably many hundreds that were carefully ushered away from the wheels of the land Rover. Very windy today but the Dragonflies were still great. Lots of Brown Hawkers and a few Emperors were the best,
