Top score by Visit England for summer experience
Summer experience gets recognition with Visit England, as we get put forward for a Gold Accolade and a Welcome Accolade thanks for the staff and volunteers in particular.
WWT Welney Wetland Centre has received a summer score to match that of the more famous winter experience. So the site is again to be put forward for a Gold accolade.
The calibre of staff and volunteers was also very high, leading to a nomination in the Welcome Accolade for a second year running.
WWT Welney balances conservation as a working wetland site in the heart of the Fens, with providing incredible experiences for visitors to connect with the landscape and the wildlife. Throughout the seasons the team work to bring visitors closer to fantastic wildlife spectacles, and tell the story of these wetlands, their history and how we can all play a part in helping nature now.
Accessibility for visitors to enjoy as much of the site as possible is a key part of the provision made at WWT Welney. The fact that the café and gift shop have also been recognised and scored highly, reflects the whole experience to be had on a day out exploring the Welney Fens.
Centre Manager, Leigh Marshall said,
A massive congratulations to everyone within the team at Welney for continued hard work, dedication and support. It’s really positive and great to see as our summer audit being judged as comparable to our swan season, with both ends of the year show casing wetland conservation.
Feedback from the visit was outstanding with the marker saying,
Wildfowl and Wetland Trust - Welney continues to offer an excellent visitor experience for all ages and levels of interest. As well as the wide variety of birds and wildlife regularly sighted at Welney, other positive aspects include the excellent shop and the very good café.
The summer season at Welney features a more varied cast of species as wildflowers and insects join the bird and mammal species adding to the sights and sounds of our wetlands. Access is also increased for visitors with the summer walk, tansy trail and Lady Fen walk being accessible in addition to the hides and viewpoints along the footpaths. Out of hours events such as bat & barn owl evenings offer a chance to explore more summer wildlife, taking in nocturnal species including moths, bats and owls.
Don't miss out on a top summer experience.
