Tuesday Sightings

The featured image today is of Tubular Dropwort (Oenanthe fistulosa) a red data list species which grows at Martin Mere. Call in at the in focus shop next the the Discovery Hide for directions.

Good start to Tuesday with a Spotted Redshank flying in on Woodend Marsh. Also there c150 Lapwing, 7 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Ringed Plover, 45 Black-tailed Godwit, Ruff, 10 Avocet inc 5 fledged. Shelduck with c10 chicks. Two Green Sandpiper (stalked by a Stoat!) on the small pool from the United Utilities Hide on the small pool in the corner of Plover Field

Ron Barker Hide; 27 Black-tailed Godwit and 3 Ruff. Med Gull in the afternoon.

Kingfisher Hide; Green Sandpiper, plenty of passerine action including Linnet, Tree Sparrow, Song Thrush and Chiffchaff.

Hale Hide; Green Sandpiper.

On the Mere; Common Sandpiper, Avocet with 3 recently hatched chicks, 4 Little Grebe. Around 100 Black-tailed Godwit flew in 10.30am. Good numbers of House Martin, Swallow and a few Sand Martin hunting over the Mere in murky conditions around midday, Swift too.

A good year for Painted Lady Butterflies.
